A child actor, strange supernatural creatures, a haunted house. Del Toro Spain-based work, Devil Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth, has the perfect combination of adventure, fear and mystery. Del Toro wrote the script and product do not be afraid of the dark, with many of his signature tropes. This film is certainly not the standards of his earlier work, which may be because the American influence that does not so much subtlety and refinement. However, it is better than average horror film with a fantastic and frightening story worthy enough to keep it entertaining.

Director Troy Nixey is a short film under his belt (Latchkey's Lament is excellent), which may explain the relative lack of imagination and originality in their effort. The setting of the haunted house combines the modern and ancient, but there is nothing exceptional in the way it portrays. In a film like this, the house has become a kind of character, but is neither fear nor interest. In the basement, the scene feels a little scary, but seems to need the help of the impact score.

This film is Del Toro is a story, and part of the contents of the style. But unlike his previous films, this is not the same depth (this could be because of his other works together for a turbulent period of history.)
